Our story - from gals to pals! Everyone is welcome to join.
It all started with an idea to bring residents together to make a difference in our own neighborhood and support a local children's charity. We had a fundraiser at Charming Charlie's for Camp-Carefree, but quickly learned the camp was too far away for us to serve in person. Our original focus included sisterhood and charity, but it just didn't seem like enough.
Our other early events included a small school supply drive in the fall 2017 for a local Title I school, W.G. Pearson and a Veterans' Day Breakfast to honor our neighbors who served. Very quickly, our founder, Lori College realized we needed to change our name from the Creekside Blue Belles to Creekside Cares if we wanted to attract men to our ranks and become an organization that welcomed every member of the neighborhood. Within months of making the change, our membership grew to include a half of dozen men and continues to add members and projects. Our dynamic membership held membership fairs and spread the word and we continue to grow adding 8 new members in 2021.
We are excited by our partnerships with Durham Children's Initiative, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Dress for Success, and Durham Public Schools and more.
